I find the idea of changing the group to one explicitly chartered to stop work
to be a bit disturbing. Nobody else in the room seemed to mind, so maybe I'm crazy.

I understand that DNS is somewhat of a magnet for bad ideas, since it is so
successful. But "defending against further enhancements of questionable value"
implies a closed mindset.

What is the new DNSEXT group supposed to do when a good idea appears? With this
charter, the most important thing the group can do is criticize the idea, until
the people advocating it somehow manage to get work done anyway, or go away and
leave the IETF process completely.

For the record, I like the idea of a hibernating group of DNS experts to *help*
people with their DNS ideas and drafts.
